Women Entrepreneurs and Technology: A Scoping Review
Sumaiya Siddiqua, Yolande Chan
Women entrepreneurs play critical roles in driving economic and social development around the world, yet they face significant barriers in innovation and growth, particularly in male-dominated areas like the technology industry itself. This scoping review systematically maps the diverse landscape of research on women's entrepreneurship in technology-driven contexts. Through a synthesis of findings from 63 carefully selected papers, we highlight important themes, such as technology adoption and innovation, and gender and diversity in entrepreneurship, that need additional research. We also propose research topics, such as exploring the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing women's empowerment, the impact of gender diversity on innovation outcomes, and the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in entrepreneurship. By shedding light on specific challenges and advocating for related research, this study contributes to the literature and provides practical implications for practitioners and policymakers seeking to facilitate women's entrepreneurship in the technology sector.
