A Framework for Structuring the Digital Transformation of Consulting Firms
Johannes Brill, Volker Nissen
Digital transformation (DT) has become a central concern for the consulting sector. However, the level of DT implementation remains relatively low within consulting firms. Current research predominantly focuses on bottom-up digitalization, overlooking strategic perspectives relevant to consulting firms. This study addresses this gap by proposing a strategic framework based on the Design-Science-Research (DSR) approach that provides consulting firms with structural guidance to navigate and drive their own DT. In addition, the framework can be utilized as a starting point for the development of methods, tools and recommendations for DT in consulting from a strategic perspective. Our research examines the fields of action that need to be considered for successful DT implementation in business consulting.
