Key Organizational Capabilities for Navigating Generative AI Implementation
Alireza Khaleghi, Arman Sadreddin
Generative Artificial Intelligence stands at the frontier of innovation, reshaping organizational processes, decision-making, and strategic operations. While it unlocks creativity and efficiency, implementation remains challenging due to the existence of different challenges, such as the absence of standardized frameworks, technical constraints, governance shortcomings, and integration hurdles. This study identifies these challenges and examines the organizational information technology (IT) capabilities essential for overcoming them. By conducting a qualitative case study, our findings identify critical implementation challenges, mapping them to AI frontier facets and, where applicable, revealing new ones unique to generative AI. These challenges are further linked to the organizational IT capabilities necessary for successful implementation. Beyond theoretical contributions, this study presents a structured framework that helps large organizations strategically develop organizational IT capabilities to overcome generative AI implementation challenges.
