Empowering or Just Hype? Exploring Generative AI Adoption in the Legal Sector
Tina Nosrati, Fariba Nosrati, Morteza Mashayekhy
This study explores the use of Generative AI (GenAI) in the legal field, examining its compatibility with legal tasks and its impact on adoption and performance. A survey of over 270 legal professionals indicates that GenAI is particularly suited for specific tasks performed by legal practitioners, such as research, analysis, and document drafting, due to its efficiency in managing large datasets. However, tasks requiring complex human judgment show less compatibility with GenAI. The findings suggest that appropriate use of GenAI leads to improved performance outcomes. Overall, many respondents viewed the integration of GenAI positively, although participants noted both benefits and challenges. This research provides actionable insights for fostering responsible GenAI adoption, targeted training, professional development, and risk mitigation to align technology capabilities with task requirements in the legal domain.
