InkVision: Extended Reality (XR) Interface Design for Reading Physical Books
Yirong Xie, Dongyu LANG, Jean Paul Vera Soto, D. Antony Chacon, Arzoo Atiq
Our research investigates the limitations of both traditional and digital reading methods and explores how XR technology can enhance the reading experience for users by employing the Double Diamond design process. We examined the challenges associated with existing reading approaches, identified potential XR-based solutions, and designed an XR reading prototype using Figma and ShapesXR, integrating interactive and adaptive features to improve comprehension and user engagement. A user evaluation was conducted to assess the prototype’s effectiveness, focusing on usability, immersion, and the overall reading experience. The findings provide insights into the potential of XR in reading applications and offer recommendations for future developments in this emerging field. This paper addresses the gap in understanding how XR can enhance the experience of reading physical books, as most of the research has focused on digital reading.
