Smart and Sustainable Cities and the AI: a bibliometric analysis
Daielly Mantovani, Taiane Ritta Coelho, Adriana Backx Noronha Viana, Guilherme Arevalo Leal
The paper aims to analyze the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Smart and Sustainable Cities. We conducted a bibliometric analysis addressing trends, challenges, and gaps in the scientific literature. Digital technologies, including AI, Digital Twins, and data analytics, emerge as promising tools to tackle urban challenges such as climate change, population growth, and socioeconomic inequalities. We identified that most studies are concentrated in countries such as China, India, and the United States, while the Global South still has low representation in scientific production. It highlights research opportunities on AI that are more aligned with the context of Latin American and African countries. Eight key themes were mapped, including renewable energy, digital governance, privacy, urban mobility, and climate change. The results highlight the need for greater international collaboration and research applied to the Latin American context.
