Exploring the Role of Smart City Readiness in Enhancing Local Government’s Resilience
Patrick Annan-Noonoo, Richard Boateng, Emmanuel Awuni Kolog, Acheampong Owusu
The Local Government Service (LGS) plays an important role in national development, by delivering essential services and administering government policies at the local level. However, the LGS faces inherent challenges that impede their effectiveness and resilience. These challenges range from limited resources and inadequate infrastructure to capacity gaps, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and socioeconomic disparities. The resilience of local government institutions becomes paramount amid these challenges because, if these institutions are not resilient, they risk being overwhelmed by shocks and disruptions which will directly impact their capacity to perform their role in national development. In response to these challenges, the emergence of smart city concepts holds promise in contributing to local government’s resilience.
