Educating IS Project Managers: Using Practice to Enhance Learning Agile
April Reed, Brenda Killingsworth
It is important to educate Information Systems (IS) project managers in a way that prepares them to use their new skill set in the workplace immediately. Although book learning has value, combining it with practice is necessary and often expected by those employing project management candidates. Kamat (2012) emphasizes this, “An early exposure to an agile learning environment can help the students to make a smooth transition to workplace environments” (Kamat, 2012, p. 232). Prior research points out the importance of knowledge acquisition as well as practical application when learning project management (Ang et al., 2021). This research describes a study of a group project assigned in an online graduate project management course to learn and practice Agile project management processes. The project's goal was to enhance the learning for students being introduced to Agile project management tools and processes, many for the first time.
