AI adoption in the corporate social responsible era: A model for practitioners and researchers
Danie Smit, Sunet Eybers, Alta Van der Merwe

The implementation of AI in organizations will impact humans. To mitigate potential risks associated with AI implementation, organizations committed to corporate social responsibility must address the unique challenges of adopting AI. The study follows a design science research approach, intending to create an AI adoption model that proposes adoption considerations in the context of responsible organizations. Many similarities exist between the adoption of traditional data-driven technologies and AI. However, from this study, three main themes emerged as special adoption considerations: the need to democratize AI within organizations, the substantial impact of the autonomous capabilities of AI technologies, and the strong need to focus on human-centred AI. The findings are discussed and graphically depicted in an Artificial Intelligence Adoption Considerations Model (AIACM). The practical applicability of the model is essential, as the ethical concerns about AI are not actionable if organizations disregard the co-shaping role of technology and humans.
