Critical Review of Digital Health Equity: Challenges in Conceptualization and Operationalization
Polina Durneva, Min Chen
Digital health technologies have great potential in improving healthcare delivery and patient health outcomes. Yet, there is a risk that digital health may exacerbate existing health disparities. The concept of digital health equity has become particularly important in overcoming health disparities as it generally captures equal distribution of access to digital health technologies and resources. Although understanding and ensuring digital health equity is critical for promoting digital health technologies, it is a relatively new phenomenon. Thus, there appears to be a lack of consensus on how to conceptualize and operationalize digital health equity. In this paper, we conducted a critical review to examine prior research on digital health equity and its associated components.
