Perceptions of Artists on AI Art
Lixuan Zhang, Katelyn Wilson, Clinton Amos
Advancements in generative AI are occurring exponentially, now capable of creating impressive, fully rendered images using simple prompts within a few years of its inception. AI art is controversial since the images created by AI are dependent on expansive datasets that may include copyrighted material, such as the portfolios of many artists. This study intends to examine artists’ perceptions of AI art since they are directly impacted by the rapidly developed technology and may be forced to compete with AI in their careers. Using in-depth interviews of artists in the entertainment industry, our findings contribute to the current literature on perceptions towards AI art and inform policymakers on how AI art should be evaluated and utilized.
