Big data analytics system implementation and market responsiveness: Role of exploitative and explorative business capabilities
Yi-Ming Tai, Yi-Cheng Ku, Shu-Chiung Lin
With evolving market conditions, market responsiveness has become an essential issue for manufacturing firms. Implementing information systems designed to support big data analytics (BDA) has been seen to have a tremendous impact on how firms identify and develop business practices to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions. However, the mechanisms underlying the impact of BDA system implementation on market responsiveness are not yet fully elucidated. Drawing from the perspective of information technology-enabled business capability, this study suggests that implementing BDA systems allows firms to improve exploitative and explorative business capabilities. The business capabilities will be act as the underlying mechanisms that enable firms to enhance market responsiveness. The research model will be evaluated using a matched-pair field survey (i.e., a study of firms’ business and information technology executives). This study expects to contribute to theory and practice by unveiling how BDA system implementation and the mediating mechanisms influence market responsiveness.
