Exploring the Impact of a Sports Analytics Camp on Social Identity for Student-Athletes?
Stella Tomasi, Lisa Custer, Justin Lima, Li Sun
The primary motivation of this study was to expose student-athletes to STEM fields through sports analytics using a personalized learning model. The model included an experiential learning intervention within a flexible environment using familiar activities that built on their involvement as an athlete to help with their learning process in data literacy, which included data collection, analysis, and visualization. We implemented this intervention in two studies in a division 1 university. We investigated how academic identity, STEM identity, and STEM Career Interest were influenced by this intervention. We conducted paired sample t-tests and found a few statements statistically significant after the intervention.
