Investigating Digital Rehabilitation Interventions for People with Temporary Disability: A Qualitative Study
Félix Giroux, Yasmine Maurice, Sylvain Sénécal, Pierre-Majorique Léger
Relearning to use information technologies with a disability is a form of digital rehabilitation that is increasingly important in the workspace and at home. This study investigates digital rehabilitation interventions in people with temporary disabilities who can recover with time and exercise. Semi-structured interviews with 32 stroke patients, health professionals, and caregivers revealed the need for distributing digital rehabilitation interventions across the actors of the recovery team. Furthermore, our preliminary results show that digital rehabilitation interventions that compensate stroke patients’ impaired functions may impede their recovery. Results of this study may guide the development of effective digital rehabilitation interventions for people with temporary disabilities.
