Enhancing Learning Outcomes through Daily Engagement: A Case Study
Leonie Kopahs, Florian Berens, Sebastian Hobert
This paper examines the impact of a digital learning app on learning outcomes and student engagement from the perspective of continuous learning and learning analytics. The study presents insights into the use of a learning app designed to promote daily learning in a university environment in addition to traditional teaching methods. The results of a field study over several semesters show moderate use of the app, but a positive correlation between app engagement and final exam performance. A comparison between in-class and emergency remote teaching shows higher exam scores for in-class learning, suggesting potential challenges with distance learning. An analysis in which students were categorized by their level of app engagement also shows a positive correlation between continuous learning with the app and academic performance. Implications for future learning and app development include optimizing task frequency, improving feedback mechanisms, and implementing predictive features to improve engagement and retention.
