Impact of organizations’ exposure in social media on the likelihood of a data breach

Data breach poses a significant risk and causes both financial and non-financial losses for organizations. Considering the rapid growth and consequences, data breach has been a serious matter of concern for all associated stakeholders. Moreover, lost reputation and trust among stakeholders due to data breach create long-term damage for organizations. Considering the consequences and severity of data breach, researchers and organizations are focusing on the possible reasons for which organizations become the target for data breach. From this perspective, this study aims to investigate the impact of organizations’ exposure in social media on the likelihood of a data breach. Moreover, the study also aims to examine security awareness’ moderating effect on the relationship between organizations’ exposure and the likelihood of a data breach.
