Social Media Addiction (SMA) is disrupting important life areas like relationships, work, and health. Adolescents, particularly those aged 10 to 19, are most affected. They're vulnerable to negative online experiences due to their still-developing minds. Factors like excessive social media use and easy access to devices contribute to SMA. This, like other addictions, is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by persistent use of platforms like Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and others, leading to significant harm. What are those addictions and negative consequences? What are the primary factors that cause SMA? Our paper utilizes Design Science Research (DSR) to create a taxonomy addressing SMA's addictions, consequences, and causal factors, aiming to raise awareness among adolescents before irreversible damage occurs. This taxonomy will contribute as foundation for advancing research aimed at developing intervention artifacts specifically designed to raise awareness among adolescents about the serious health consequences of SMA.
