Caroline Relva de Moraes, Paulo Rupino da Cunha, Isabel Ramos, Paulo Peixoto
We address the contemporary challenge of implementing an effective digital workplace for a diverse workforce by investigating 91 variables influencing employee engagement. Employing a conceptual model, these variables were categorized into seven sets of factors for a confirmatory study. Data comes from an online survey (n = 378). The research explores the impact of these factors on employees from Generations X, Y, and Z. We identified similarities and differences among the generations in their engagement, attitudes, and challenges in digital workspaces. Notably, the findings confirm a concerning trend of decreased commitment and increased detachment among Generation Z employees toward their organizations. This study makes a valuable contribution to digital workplace research, offering highlights for organizations aiming to create effective digital work environments that cater to the needs of a diverse workforce. It underscores the importance of understanding generational different values and behaviors to design strategies that foster employee engagement.
