Towards an Enterprise Transformation Steering Information System
Benedict Lösser, Robert Winter
Enterprise transformations (ETs) are critical yet challenging for established organizations. ETs are inherently complex and emergent, involving significant changes across multiple areas of an organization with high uncertainty and volatility. Accordingly, steering committees often struggle with their task due to the lack of timely and reliable information. This lack of coordination, coupled with slow decision-making, has a significant negative impact on the success of ETs. However, advances in data analytics and simulation capabilities offer new opportunities to improve ET steering. This study explores the use of existing data and information sources to improve ET steering, utilizing the revelatory case of OTTO, a long-standing mail-order company, to abduct a process for an ET steering information system. Informed by recent discussions about the digital twin of the organization, this study contributes to improved information logistics in ET showcasing a novel approach to managing complex organizational changes.
