Sakshi Singh, Sanjay Goel
This study explores the intricate interaction between cognitive load and an individual’s susceptibility to misinformation. In this digital age, we are surrounded by a plethora of information that requires much mental effort, referred to as cognitive load. Cognitive load has become pivotal, increasing the likelihood of being susceptible to misinformation. With the help of eye-tracking technology, we aim to investigate the role of cognitive load on working memory, which helps us evaluate news authenticity. In other words, the study focuses on influence of cognitive load in distinguishing real news from fake news. This investigation is particularly timely as misinformation can risk corrupting public opinion and could compromise political integrity.
