Firms are continuously optimizing their information technology (IT) workflows by undertaking initiatives. The role of alignment between DevOps and IT support remains crucial in achieving successful process improvements in a software-driven strategy. These initiatives improve the performance of firms at the process level so that tighter alignment would bring about greater firm performance. The human social system (HSS) is critical and influences alignment success in organizational process improvements. Our study examines software release strategies in process improvement initiatives in a highly resource-constrained environment. It examines the impact of HSS on alignment within the software development and deployment teams. Based on RBV, we argue that IT alignment moderates the effect of software-release process improvement initiatives on firm performance. We also argue that through interactions, communication, and collaboration, HSS will further impact this process. A preliminary research model will be developed to evaluate the theoretical foundation.
