Sajda Qureshi, Blessing Oladokun, Kavya Nadendla
Data harvested from almost every aspect of people’s lives have made them vulnerable to surveillance capitalism and the algorithmic bias. This paper investigates the role of digital rights and freedoms in the context of digital inclusion. The research questions being investigated are 1) How are human freedoms affected by digital inclusion? 2) Do human freedoms effect accountability and mobile health? And 3) Do human freedoms effect accountability and digital inclusion? This paper considers factors relating to human freedoms such as education/literacy, health, location Healthcare Access; Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health; Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health Inequality. Multidimensional Poverty Index and the HDI can be seen to be mediating human freedoms against a digital inclusion index. The analysis found that digital inclusion has a significant impact on human freedoms and accountability plays a mediating role between the two variables as well as mediating the relation between human freedoms and mobile health.
