Going Into the Cloud in Digital Transformation: A Literature Review of Cloud Computing and Its Impact on Information Systems Development
Theresa Rolfes, Thomas Haskamp, Tobias Wuttke, Falk Uebernickel
When firms digitally transform, this also requires information systems development (ISD) teams to shift from developing on-premises applications to developing cloud applications. While recent studies have begun to examine how ISD teams transition to cloud delivery, a systematic understanding of how ISD is changing with the need to develop cloud systems remains to be developed. To provide the basis for this, this paper analyses the current body of knowledge through a structured literature review. The analysis of 55 papers revealed four dimensions: Cloud Architecture, Cloud Enabler, Cloud Practices, and Cloud Outcomes, including thirteen shifts that ISD teams need to consider. From this, we propose a framework and a research agenda, highlighting four future research avenues that aim to identify some interesting dynamics that future research can explore as ISD teams move towards cloud-native development.
